More security for pharmaceutical products

More security for pharmaceutical products

The EU Directive 2011/62/EU places strict requirements on the security of pharmaceuticals. In Hannover, experts have met from around Germany to address the new requirements. At the "Counterfeit security in pharmaceutical production" conference from May 21–23, packaging was at the focus of attention: In the future, it will be serialised and equipped with tamper evidence. All relevant data must be encrypted.

The implementation of the new EU directive will require the close collaboration of all market participants. Laetus specialises in inspection systems for packaging and can offer the pharmaceutical industry the expertise they gained from 40 years of experience. During the conference, the Laetus Track & Trace expert Jörg Liedtke spoke about the current status of national and international regulations and the future requirements of the EU.

Laetus have positioned themselves as a provider of complete solutions. The palette ranges from consulting, project planning and implementation to service, training and documentation. Mature products such as the S-TTS marking and verification system already meet the new EU requirements today, offering maximum security: First, packaging in blisters, folding boxes, bundles and cartons get inspected (cell control). The next option is the continuous control of multiple such units along a packaging line (line control). This stage already supports multi-level aggregations and consolidated data management. The bundling of serialised data from multiple production lines occurs at level three (plant control). Here, data is centrally collected and administered, then transmitted to the customer's ERP system. This permits S-TTS to model the entire data warehouse process, guaranteeing the highest possible security against counterfeiting in pharmaceutical packaging.

The installation on individual packaging machines is just as easy as setting up complete lines. The modular design of the S-TTS provides remarkable stability of investment, because even after implementation of the EU directive there is no uniform European standard in sight. In each country, various organisations are currently working on different concepts for the introduction of the standards required. The marking and inspection system provided by Laetus meets all current and planned requirements for serialisation and guarantees conformity with international standards. S-TTS also makes your supply chain and warehousing transparent, because you can track a product location at any past or present point in time.
