Building extension completed - ergonomic and energy-efficient

MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection has completed the extension of its Enger site in North Rhine Westphalia after a construction period of around two years. The building project comprised a new building with three floors, the extension of the production hall and the renovation of the old building. The new building was designed and constructed to state of the art standards as regards ergonomics, interaction facility and energy efficiency.

The production and administration area of MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection grew by around 2,000 square metres following the com-pletion of the new building in August 2010 and the current building extension and renovation. The new office building has a steel rein-forced concrete frame design and a highly insulated aluminium fa-cade. With its 3 level structure it offers space for flexible working areas in 'combi offices', which were designed to the latest stan-dards with regard to interaction facility and energy efficiency.

Minimum energy use

Heating and air conditioning in the new building are provided by the most modern VRV inverter technology, so that the building requires only the minimum energy use. VRV stands for 'Variable Refrigerant Volume' and this forward-thinking key technology offers the user all three operating modes: cooling, cooling/heating with heat pump and simultaneous cooling and heating with heat recovery. " With this equipment and the rainwater retention concept throughout the entire complex, we are making our contribution to the environmentally-friendly use of resources and protection of the environment", says Managing Director Volker Gerloff. The building work was carried out by companies from the local region.

The extension and the new building had become necessary be-cause the MULTIVAC daughter company had registered continuous growth since 1999 in the areas of personnel, turnover and number of machines delivered. The specialist company in labelling and marking technology had already made provision in advance for the future: the purchase of around 6,000 square metres of neighbouring land ensures the long-term economic future of the Enger site.

The new building is partially used for the offices of the Northern Sales Center of MULTIVAC Germany. Housed there are also the MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection departments of Control Technol-ogy Development, Design, Marketing and Product Management. MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection has also set up a showroom for machines. The presentation area has already been used for several customer events, among them an in-house exhibition in collabora-tion with MULTIVAC Denmark for customers from Denmark.

Optimum training conditions

The new building also contains a new training room, in which MUL-TIVAC Marking & Inspection provides technical training courses for MULTIVAC technicians from around the world and for customers' technical personnel. The fundamentals of labelling technology, as well as operational sequences and structured fault finding, are all taught on up-to-date training machines. "The training groups are kept deliberately small. This has the advantage that we can get into the requirements of the individual technicians in a targeted way. Every technician who leaves our training courses has received training which is individually tailored to his requirements", empha-sizes Martin Töniges, Head of Training at MULTIVAC Marking & In-spection.

Training courses at the Enger factory offer customers several ad-vantages: their technicians can devote all their concentration to the training, unburdened by demands within their operations. In addi-tion, individual situations can be simulated which are often not pos-sible in running production. Training courses in advance of machine delivery are also possible, which means that operators are trained by the time the machine is installed. "The modern equipment meets the latest levels of training and presentation technology", adds Töniges.
